LOS ANGELES – The Cal State L.A. tennis team made their 2007 duals debut on Tuesday at the Cal State L.A. Tennis Complex against NAIA's Fresno Pacific. The Golden Eagles were swept by the Sunbirds and start the season with an overall record of 0-1.
Despite being swept by Fresno Pacific's monstrous lineup, boasting former NCAA Division I singles finalist Jalena Pandzic, the Golden Eagles refused to back down. Over four duals this season, the Sumbirds have lost only two matches.
Jennifer Avila, playing from the number five spot, and
Bojana Ducanovic, playing out of the sixth spot, each pulled off four wins in their first sets. Meanwhile, playing her first match of the season,
Krishana De Silva, like 33 women before her, fell to Pandzic, who has not suffered defeat in a singles encounter since the NCAA Tournament finals in 2005.
The Golden Eagles return to duals action to open CCAA Conference play on Saturday, February 10, as they go head to head with defending CCAA women's tennis champions UC San Diego in La Jolla.
